THE INDUSTRY IS GROWING LIKE CRAZY Canada is the 39th most populated country in the world, but it has the eight largest market for e-commerce— increasing at a rate of about 8% each year. For an e-commerce market worth $US25 billion in 2019, 8% is massive on its own — that’s just part of the story. This year has shown us that there’s extremely impressive growth potential in online grocery sales. Before 2020 about a quarter of Canadian shoppers were currently, or were strongly considering, ordering groceries online for delivery. Of these, 86 percent wanted them delivered right to their doors. Recent US studies have shown that online grocery sales saw a 110 percent boost in daily sales between March and April 2020— the beginning of a new era.
